| Comments | Two federal ministries were responsible for the University College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy: the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management for the maintenance and funding of the university college and the Federal Ministry of Education and Women’s Affairs for study-related legal matters. This resulted in inefficiencies and in a duplication of efforts. The deployed instruments concerning planning (performance mandates on resources, objectives and achievements) and management (balanced scorecards) were not always effective. The training for teachers of agricultural and forestry sciences in Austria was exclusively held at the University College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy. Despite this, thematic overlaps with other teachers trainings could be detected in the area of nutritional pedagogy and natural sciences. From 2009/2010 to 2013/2014, the University College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy recorded a considerable increase of some 56.50% of students. The offered range of courses at the university college should be geared towards the future needs, taking into account the new curriculum of teacher training (“Pädagog/innenbildung NEU”). Teachers of agricultural sciences (qualified to teach in the field of environmental sciences in vocational intermediate and secondary schools for agricultural and forestry sciences) could only be deployed in a limited way, revealed the risk of having a lack of labour-market oriented courses. |
