| Comments | Significant financial transactions related to greenhouse gas emissions are recognised in the accounts of Irish Government departments and offices, but are not readily identifiable in the published accounts. This report was compiled to draw together and explain those transactions. They include • receipts related to the auction of allowances related to the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) which amounted to €367.3 million for the period 2013 to 2018 • receipts from carbon tax, a tax of fossil fuel first introduced in 2010, which totalled €431 million in 2018. The potential financial implications of failure to meet binding climate change targets by 2020 are also examined. |
