Description | The Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy and the Universities of Graz and Innsbruck partly implemented or have taken steps to implement the recommendations issued by the Austrian Court of Audit on the introductory and orientation period for university studies in 2013. In 2015, the legislator clearly defined, among others, the framework conditions and the scope of application for the introductory and orientation period in the amended Universities Act 2002. The amendment, for example, includes provisions on the advanced attending of courses before positively completing the introductory and orientation period and abolishes the possibility of repeating failed exams in this period. The Universities of Graz and Innsbruck promised to bring about further improvements for the introductory and orientation period. They, for example, envisage to provide for solutions to the advanced attendance of courses and for alternatives regarding the summer term. Both universities, however, failed to conduct regular assessments of the two examination dates per semester. The Universities of Graz and Innsbruck have to adapt their curricula to the new legislation by June 2017. |
