Mr Rolands Irklis begins his duties as the new Auditor General of the Republic of Latvia

On 14 January 2021, the Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) elected Mr Irklis to the post of Auditor General of the Republic of Latvia. On 28 January 2021 he was sworn in at the Saeima for a 4-year term.

Mr Irklis brings a rich experience from the public administration sector to this post. Prior to assuming his office, Mr Irklis was the Chair of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) of the Republic of Latvia since February 2016. From 2011 to 2016, he worked as the Commissioner in PUC. He has also served as a sworn advocate and a legal advisor at the Bank of Latvia and in the private sector.

In addition, Mr Irklis has also a versatile professional experience in the international arena. He took the post of the Presidium Member of the Energy Regulators Regional Association in 2016 and was acting as a Vice-President of the Board of the Council of European Energy Regulators and a Vice-Chair of the Board of the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators since 2019.

Mr Irklis has graduated from the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law (Master degree) in 2005 and from an Executive Master of Business Administration program at the Riga Business School in 2020.

The new Auditor General is looking forward to developing a constructive and forward-looking dialogue, sharing and implementing common ideas on the auditing and public financial management issues of the national and international significance.
